Brazilian sugar export data: volumes, value and markets
Brazil is the world's largest sugar exporter, and 2025 was a down year in both volume and value after a stronger 2024. The figures below come from ComexStat directly, with the pull date attached, and are cross-checked against the one industry figure available for the same year.
We work in Brazil and we do not sell sugar. No figure below is rounded to make the trade look better than it is.
The short answer
Brazil exported 33.77 million tonnes of sugar in 2025 for US$14.11 billion, by ComexStat, down from 38.24 million tonnes and US$18.6 billion in 2024, a fall of 24.1% in value and 11.7% in volume year on year. China was the largest single destination by value in 2025, followed by India, Bangladesh, Algeria and Indonesia.
The figures, and how they were pulled
| Year | Volume | Value (FOB) |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 38.24 Mt | US$18.60 bn |
| 2025 | 33.77 Mt | US$14.11 bn |
Source: ComexStat API (api-comexstat.mdic.gov.br), export flow, NCM codes 1701.14.00 (other cane sugar, the code covering most raw and VHP/VVHP sugar), 1701.99.00 (other cane, beet and chemically pure sucrose in solid form, covering refined and white types), 1701.13.00 (cane sugar under note 2, non-centrifugal) and 1701.91.00 (sugar with added flavouring or colouring). Pulled directly on 24 September 2026. This is a primary-source figure, pulled from the government database rather than taken from a press report.
For cross-checking, novaCana, an industry trade publication, reported the same 2025 export value independently, citing SECEX: US$14.11 billion, down 24.2% in revenue and 11.7% in volume, and described 2025 as the second-largest export volume in the series going back to 1989. The two figures agree to the dollar, which is a useful confirmation that the ComexStat pull and the industry's own reporting are reading the same underlying data.
Top destinations, 2025

|---|---|
| China | US$1.90 bn |
| India | US$1.08 bn |
| Bangladesh | US$0.88 bn |
| Algeria | US$0.87 bn |
| Indonesia | US$0.80 bn |
| Saudi Arabia | US$0.76 bn |
Source: ComexStat API, same NCM codes as above, country-level detail, pulled 24 September 2026. This is a single year's ranking; destination shares in sugar move year to year with each buyer country's own harvest and import policy, so treat this as a snapshot rather than a fixed pattern.
What this data does not show
The NCM codes pulled here group Brazilian sugar broadly by processing stage rather than by the specific commercial grade (VHP, VVHP, Cristal Branco and so on) described on sugar grades and ICUMSA colour. A buyer wanting the exact split of exports by grade would need to query ComexStat at a finer level than this page pulled, or ask a specific mill for its own shipment records.
Where this fits
The grade and colour-spec question is on sugar grades and ICUMSA colour, explained. The company-verification side, including the documented fraud pattern, is on how to verify a Brazilian sugar exporter. The wider index is the Sourcing from Brazil hub.

How much sugar did Brazil export in 2025?
33.77 million tonnes for US$14.11 billion, by ComexStat (NCM 1701.14.00, 1701.99.00, 1701.13.00 and 1701.91.00, pulled 24 September 2026), down from 38.24 million tonnes and US$18.6 billion in 2024, a 24.1% fall in value. novaCana, citing SECEX, independently reported the same US$14.11 billion figure and described 2025 as the second-largest export volume in the series since 1989.
Who buys the most Brazilian sugar?
By 2025 export value, China, India, Bangladesh, Algeria and Indonesia were the top five destinations, led by China at close to US$1.9 billion. This is a single year's ranking and shifts with global supply and each buyer's own harvest.
Does ComexStat show how much is VHP raw versus white sugar?
Not at the level pulled for this page. The NCM codes used split cane sugar broadly (1701.14.00 covers most raw cane sugar including VHP and VVHP; 1701.99.00 covers refined and white types), but a clean split of exact tonnage between raw and white sugar was not extracted here.
